In 1975 Canon developed what it called a Laser Beam Printer which is why many of the printers are call LBP. Canon has always been at the forefront of non impact print technology with its laser, BubbleJet printers and copiers, however in the field of laser printers its sales have not been as great as those enjoyed by Hewlett Packard, even when the two share the same engine primarily due to the software used by Hewlett Packard and its greater success in marketing. Established in 1933 by Goro Yoshida and Saburo Uchida, Canon began as company called Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. In the company’s beginnings, their major goal was to develop a 35mm camera. In 1934,the Kwanon camera was released yet it never actually hit the marketplace. Today Canon is a global market leading company in a variety of fields from Cameras to printers and enjoys many global alliances with other leading manufacturers.
